In the old days, harvested rice was prepared by pounding with lesung (large wooden pestle and mortar). This process resulted in bits of crushed rice called 'menir', which would be sold at a cheap price. Nowadays machine have a replaced the use of lesung, and therefore menir rice is no longer available for sale. Simply use normal rice for Meniran recipe bellow and serve this with some abon (beef/fish floss), sprinkles or other dry side dishes.
Meniran is a traditional food made from rice cooked with coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaves. It tastes delicious because there is coconut milk and added chicken in it make anyone like this one food. Including those of you who just found out about this food, you have to try it at home!!
