Apem Kukus Recipe, Steamed Cassava And Coconut Cake.

Kue Apam is Southeast Asian cakes 'cupcakes' that has various colored such as brown, pink, or white. This cakes is steamed in a bowl mold or in a tin then cut into several peaces.

More unique with a mixture of local brown sugar and sprinkling of grated savory steamed coconut, it will definitely make you addicted.

The brown sugar apem cake is a traditional snack that is quite populer. And this snack is perfect for serving at family events or for your own snack. The way to make it is very easy and the ingredients are also easy to get around us. So, let's follow the recipe below.


For 15-20 pieces

INGREDIENTS :

250 g Rice flour

150 g Ripe fermented cassava, veins removed

150 g Palm sugar, finely sliced

  50 g Sugar

150 ml Coconut water

125 ml Water

100 ml Coconut milk

Enough Grated coconut garnish


HOW TO MAKE :

1. Squeeze repeatedly fermented cassava and palm sugar together, to mix thoroughly. Add water, keep squeezing/kneading to make a smooth mixture. Strain and discard the coarse remainder.

2.Add cassava puree bit by bit to rice flour and knead 10 minutes to make a smooth and soft dough. Set aside for 15-20 minutes, for dough to swell and bubble.

3. After rest for a while, add coconut milk and stir evenly.

4. Heat up cake moulds for 5 minutes in steaming pan with water boiling inside. 

5. Pour in mixture into greased cake moulds, and steam for 30-40 minutes until cakes are cooked and risen perfectly.

6. Serve Kue Apem garnished with grated coconut.
