Klepon is made made from glutinous rice flour which is generally colored green through the use of pandan leaves or suji leaves. The klepon dough is formed into small balls and filled with brown sugar and then boiled in boiling water. The cooked klepon is then covered with grated coconut.
Klepon has sweet taste and chewy texture make this snack liked by many people. Getting it is not difficult, because usually klepon can be found in traditional markets at affordable prices.
You can make it yourself too, because the tools and materials are sold everywhere, plus it's too easy to make. You can follow the recipe below to make a delicious klepon :
KLEPON RECIPE
for 20-25 pieces
Ingredient :
250 g Glutinous rice flour
¼ tsp Salt
½ tsp Slaked lime water
2 tbs Suji water/ green coloring
125 ml Warm water
100 g Palm sugar, finely sliced
1 litre Water
Grated coconut as preferred
How to make :
1. Mix glutinous rice flour, salt, slaked lime water, suji water.
2. Pour in warm water a little each time, while kneading to a smooth and pliant dough.
3. Divide dough into 20 portion, shape to little balls.
4. Flatten a ball and put 1 tsp palm sugar in the center. Roll back into a ball.
5. Bring 1 litre water to boil and put klepon balls one by one. Once floating, lift out and drain.
6. Roll on grated coconut to garnish. Klepon ready to eat.
